Phoenix Oktoberfest kicks off Friday

Downtown Phoenix is kicking off the month of October with a special happy hour event on Friday.

Organizers of the annual Phoenix Oktoberfest added the first-ever happy hour to turn the event into a two-day celebration.

“We want to encourage the downtown-area businesses and everybody who is getting off of work who wants to come check out the Phoenix Oktoberfest,” said Colleen O’Donnell-Pierce, an event organizer.

Friday will feature dancing and a stein competition. On Saturday, the city has brought in Dee Eckten Waldbomb, a native German band.

“They’re Bavarian,” said O’Donnell-Pierce. “They know how to do an Oktoberfest right. They play all the drinking songs.”

The festival runs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hance Park, located at 200 E. Moreland. Admission is $5.

We want to hear from you.
