PHOENIX — Valley political strategist Mike O’Neil said voters already have a good read on President Obama and Mitt Romney and game changers in the Denver debate Wednesday night are unlikely.
O’Neil said there isn’t much in the way of mystery between the candidates.
“Hard for me to envision, short of a catastrophic meltdown, what happens in the debates as a game changer,” he said.
But O’Neil said the debate could still provide a lightning- rod moment for undecided voters to finally get off the fence.
“If somebody asks a completly unexpected question and it brings out some moment of candor that we have seen before.”
Despite several polls showing a narrowing gap between the president and Romney, O’Neil believes the margin is wider and Obama would win if the election was today.
