Movies in a Minute: ‘Black Mass’

Sep 17, 2015, 4:52 PM

“Black Mass” is the story of James “Whitey” Bulger, one of the most infamous American gangsters of all time.

Bulger, who was a possible Federal Bureau of Investigation informant and the brother of a prominent state senator, lead his Winter Hill Gang from South Boston against the Italian-American Partriarca crime family for nearly 20 years. He was eventually accused of dozens of crimes and went into hiding in 1994. He wasn’t brought to justice until 2011, when he was 81 years old.

Overall, I thought this movie was good, albeit a bit chilling. Johnny Depp has been really hit or miss on movies as of late, but this role is perfect for him. He knocks it out of the park (or is it pahk?) as Whitey Bulger. The star-studded cast behind him certainly doesn’t hurt things either.
