ADOT: No speed limit raises on horizon for Arizona

Drivers will soon be able to drive up to 85 mph on a 41- mile stretch of highway in Texas, but something like that won’t work in Arizona, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
“Right now, we don’t feel in Arizona that there is a need to explore that here,” said Dustin Krugel with ADOT. “We would be concerned about the impact on safety, since speed is a key factor that can contribute to the severity of crashes.”
Krugel said there are some portions of Arizona’s highways could qualify to have the speed limit raised, but a lot of the roads simply won’t work.
“There’s a lot of highways that we have across the state that just would not qualify due to elevation changes and high traffic volume,” he said.
The highest speed limit in Arizona is 75 mph.
