PHOENIX — Physical therapists are playing a lot of golf these days, but it’s for a good cause.
Nintendo Wii games are becoming popular in occupational and neurological rehabilitation programs.
Valley physical therapist Megan Moskal said the games are especially important for patients with brain injuries and stroke victims.
“I use them all the time,” she said. “I use them to work on balance, and endurance. It helps encourage patients. It’s something new for them.”
Patients who use games like Wii Golf show improved range of motion and motor coordination.
Moskal said patients love the challenge because it’s new and exciting.
“They’re not really paying attention to the exercise, they’re just having fun doing it,” she said. “So, it’s the same activity it’s just a little more interactive.”
