PHOENIX — Arizona State University is the latest on a growing list of schools to reroute its buses from Interstate 10 in Phoenix after a spate of shootings.
The university issued a statement Sunday asking bus drivers to avoid the stretch of I-10 between 35th and 83rd avenues. That stretch has seen the highest instances of shootings. It also encouraged students and staff that use the highway to exercise caution.
ASU offers students an intercampus bus system.
Last week, six Arizona school districts ordered their buses off specific highways until authorities arrest the person or persons responsible. Phoenix Elementary, Paradise Valley, Tolleson Elementary, Tucson Unified, Kyrene and Fowler Elementary school districts said student safety was the main concern for the changes.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, seven cars have been hit by bullets and four have been hit by projectiles since the shootings began on Aug. 29.
The agency upped the reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspected serial shooter to $50,000 on Monday.
DPS is encouraging anyone with information to contact them at 602-644-5805 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
