Several Valley doctors are heading to Hollywood for Friday’s Stand Up To Cancer telethon.
One of the participating doctors is Dr. Daniel von Hoff with the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center in Scottsdale. He is hoping to spread the word about pancreatic cancer and its treatments.
“There’s no question that pancreas cancer is increasing in the United States and the world,” he told News/Talk 92.3 KTAR’s Karie & Chuck. “It has the worst one-year survivorship of any type of cancer. What we’ve been doing is finding a way to cut-off the ‘fuel supply.'”
Von Hoff said he has developed a method of treatment that improves the patient’s quality and quantity of life.
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth-most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the country. It is estimated that 37,000 Americans will die of pancreatic cancer in 2012.
