PHOENIX — Chase Field. Jobing.com Arena. University of Phoenix Stadium. All of these Valley sports facilities have those names because companies bought the naming rights.
Now, the City of Phoenix wants to add more to the list.
“The specific areas that we’ve identified so far are the Phoenix Convention Center and our parks and recreation youth sports programs,” said Phoenix management assistant Jon Brodsky.
The city has chosen an Ohio firm, Superlative, over seven local companies to market Phoenix to potential sponsors.
Brodsky did not know if Superlative submitted the lowest bid.
Brodsky said that San Diego is an example that selling the naming rights could bring big bucks to Phoenix.
“In the first 10 years of their program, they were able to generate $10 million from the program,” he said. “It would be a goal of ours to emulate that.”
Brodsky said it could take up to 18 months to find a sponsor.
