Following the recent shooting of an Oakland Raiders fan outside of University of Phoenix Stadium by an Arizona Cardinals fan and former cop, fans are teaming up against violence by holding a car wash and fundraiser on Saturday.
“We want people to see Raider fans working with Cardinals fans and we want to be proactive and show we don’t condone violent acts,” said Michael Smallwood with Phoenician Raiders Booster Club.
Smallwood said the proceeds will go to Fans Against Violence and he wants to dispel the stereotypes of a Raiders fan.
“People are going to draw their own conclusions and we want to show we’re proactive and protest violence with this car wash,” he said.
The event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Catalina Sports Bar and Grill near Thomas and 16th Street.
In addition to the car wash, the event will feature an auction of autographed items and Raiders tickets donated by Raiders linebacker Aaron Curry and Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
