A southeast Valley company is turning old blue jeans into home insulation and helping the environment at the same time.
Sean Desmond with Bonded Logic said it takes about 2,000 pairs of blue jeans to insulate the average home and they go through about 300 tons of jeans every month.
“We work with manufacturers to take their waste,” he said.
“We have collection bins in Phoenix and we have the first municipal recycling program in the nation going on with Queen Creek.”
While some may think that traditional fiberglass insulation is the best way to go, Desmond said there is not that much of a difference.
“It’s extremely good insulation and one of the best parts is it meets the thermal requirements of everything out there and the sound absorption is one of the best on the market,” he said.
The insulation is available at local hardware stores.
“We just started a new partnership with Lowes in the Valley and it’s easy to get,” said Desmond. “People can go right to Lowes and get it.”
