A 2-year-old Mesa girl has died after being found unconscious by her mother.
The little girl was asleep when her mother was unable to rouse her. The trailer near Broadway and Higley where the child lived was without air conditioning for a few days, Mesa Police Sgt. Tony Landato said.
“There was a second child at the scene, a 1-year-old boy,” he said. “Both children appeared to have symptoms similar to dehydration and malnutrition. Neither child had signs of trauma or injury and we’re not suspecting any kind of physical abuse.”
The boy will be released into the custody of Child Protective Services.
Police are waiting for a report from the medical examiner to decide if they are going to charge the 22-year-old mother.
