A new report by the Congressional Research Service said worldwide weapon sales by the United States have tripled in 2011.
U.S. arms sales reached $66.3 billion last year for developing and developed nations.
The total worldwide weapon sales by the U.S. nearly doubled to $85.3 billion.
The second-highest arms sales comes from Russia, which sold $4.8 billion.
Some of the biggest purchasers for U.S. arms include Saudi Arabia, which purchased $30 billion worth of arms and Taiwan, which accounted for $2 billion.
The United Nations is expected to vote by the end of the year on a treaty to regulate the sale of arms.
