Maurice C. Cash Elementary School at 35th Avenue and Roeser Road was locked down on Monday, after a former student allegedly fired shots.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump said a 13-year-old boy was arrested in his backyard shortly after he allegedly rode his bicycle to the school, fired four shots into the air and rode home.
Rifles and shotguns were found near the boy.
“This is a student who, on Tuesday, was suspended by the school for three days for some sort of threat,” said Crump.
The boy’s father and brother were also detained by police.
The school was under lockdown from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Karen Menge with the Laveen Elementary School District said the situation has cleared up and police are investigating.
