PHOENIX — The Food Network will air the Flagstaff edition of its show “The Great Food Truck Race” on Sunday.
The episode was filmed in the downtown area in May. The cable TV show follows seven food truck teams competing for the $50,000 grand prize.
“I love them and I hate them at the same time,” said Brad Moore, who runs Short Leash Hot Dogs, a Phoenix food truck. No Arizona trucks are competing.
“It’s amazing for us because it brought a great awareness to food trucks in general.”
Moore said “The Great Food Truck Race” makes his job look easy and glamorous, but that’s wrong on both counts.
“We start at eight in the morning prepping and we’ll be cleaning until 2 [p.m.], but this is really a 24/7 job,” he said.
“When you’re not in the truck, you’re managing your business like any other business for all of your waking hours and how you’re going to grow it. And there’s nothing glamorous about being in a food truck that heats up to 140 degrees.”
