PHOENIX — The investigation into identifying the person or persons responsible for a string of shootings along the I-10 freeway continued Saturday as more incidents were reported.

Earlier in the day authorities announced that Oscar de La Torre Munoz is not the prime suspect of the 11 confirmed shootings that have taken place on Valley freeways since Aug. 29.

“This investigation continues as we work to identify and assist in the prosecution of anyone involved in these series of shootings. We need the ongoing support, vigilance and patience of our community and the media as this is a very complex and ongoing investigation,” said Arizona Deparmtent of Public Safety Director Col. Frank Milstead will attend the press conference in a press release.

DPS is also currently investigating two reports of incidents that reportedly occurred near I-10 and 83rd avenue and I-10 and 32nd avenue where there were reports of shattered windows. DPS has not confirmed if these are connected in any way to the string of shootings or if they were in deed a shooting.

Munoz, 19, of Avondale and another woman were taken into custody Friday near 107th Avenue and Indian School Road. The woman was later released while Munoz was held as a person of interest and questioned. He was later arrested and booked into the Fourth Avenue jail on suspicion of possession of marijuana.

DPS Public Information Officer, Bart Graves said that Munoz, “Is not our prime suspect, never was our prime suspect.”

Graves added that Munoz is still a person of interest in the case.

State troopers have been patrolling freeways from early morning to night.

A $20,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the arrest of the suspected serial shooter.

DPS can be contacted at 602-644-5805.
