PHOENIX — Despite the shaky economy, an Arizona State University graduate has opened and successfully operated two restaurant bars on Mill Avenue in Tempe.
Now, Julian Wright is opening his third.
Known for La Bocca urban pizzeria + wine bar and Canteen Modern Tequila Bar, he has added the Handlebar and Grill to his list of establishments.
The restaurant is described as “a neighborhood bicycle friendly modern American beer garden. The draft beer selection will include eight European beers, eight local beers and eight American craft beers.”
The food will be made to order and consist of local bratwurst and other sausages, hand cut fries and Belgium pretzels with an assortment of toppings and dipping sauces.
Opening this location has presented some challenges to the young owner.
“To survive in business you have to be resilient,” said Wright. “Whether it’s a big problem or a small one, you have to have a make-it-happen attitude.
“At the end of the day, it has to be the right concept and the right location and execute it well to be successful,” he said.
