Expansion to consolidate Mayo Clinic cancer units

PHOENIX — Mayo Clinic in north Phoenix has received the OK to begin construction of a $130 million expansion that will house all its cancer units under one roof.
The 217,200-square-foot multi-story facility is expected to open in 2015. The addition will sit atop the the clinic’s proton beam therapy building which is under construction.
“Our patients will welcome this single-site Cancer Center, because under one roof we will be able to leverage personalized, comprehensive cancer care that includes medical and surgical oncology, infusion and chemotherapy, proton beam therapy and cancer research,” said Wyatt W. Decker, M.D., CEO, Mayo Clinic in Arizona, in a press release.
Staff and departments will be relocated from Scottsdale and Phoenix facilities, including hematology/oncology, pharmacy, radiology services and an outpatient unit.
