PHOENIX — Fear and anxiety over the freeway shootings may have football fans choosing to stay off of highways as they head to the Arizona Cardinals game on Sunday.
City of Glendale Spokeswoman Kim Larson said visitors can use several alternative routes that involve surface streets to make their way to University of Cardinals Stadium.
“People can take Northern Avenue from the west or the east,” she said. “If you’re coming from the west side of Glendale, you can take 99th Avenue. That’s an access, and you can enter off of Bethany Home Road that way.”
Larson cautioned against using one particular surface street due to the large amount of traffic it carries to and from the games.
“Definitely not Glendale Avenue,” she said. “That’s certainly the most popular route. People can take Northern from the west to the east.”
For those going to the game or just looking to watch the game in the area Sunday, Larson said to leave home early and give plenty of time to make the 1 p.m. kickoff.
“The earlier you leave to head to the stadium, the better it will be,” she said.
