PHOENIX — A central Phoenix shopping center is roaring back to life.
After years of struggle, the once popular 50-year-old Town and Country Shopping Center is welcoming several new businesses.
Ryan Cesaitis with Potbelly Sandwich Shop opened up for his first day of business Tuesday. He had no concerns about setting up shop at the center near 20th Street and Camelback Road, and the long lines were all the validation he needed.
“The Camelback trade area here has a lot of offices and we saw this as a great neighborhood for us and we’ll be opening in other Phoenix neighborhoods in the near future,” he said.
Potbelly also plans to expand with stores at Seventh Avenue and McDowell Road and at CityScape in Phoenix.
Cesaitis’ shop is bookended by the Cafe Rio Mexican Grill and Five Guys Burgers. Just across the lot is a 35,000-square-foot Nordstrom Rack, which will open soon.
“There’s a lot of great customers here and a lot of our former customers in Chicago who relocated here for jobs and family,” said Cesaitis.
Several businesses are also under renovation at the mall, including Trader Joe’s.
