Valley’s streak of extremely hot nights reaches 8

The overnight temperature in Phoenix hasn’t dropped below 90 degrees in eight days. Marvin Percha with the National Weather Service said the overnight lows Aug. 8-9 reached 93.
Still not the record.
“The all-time record hottest night is 96 on July 15, 2003,” he said.
Percha said this eight-day run of temperatures is unusual.
“Usually we have some rain and thunderstorms that knock the temperature down but we haven’t had much in the past several days.”
And he said these warm nights can be blamed on a hot-air mass and all of the asphalt and concrete in Valley, creating a heat island.
“It continues to grow as the city grows. And we’re seeing more urban infill too.”
Percha says there’s an outside chance the overnight streak of 90 degrees and above could end Wednesday morning but will probably end Thursday.
