Drought conditions aiding Arizona winegrowers

PHOENIX — The drought gripping more than half of America has actually come to the aid of Arizona winegrowers.

“The drought has reduced the amount of insect that are around our vineyards,” said Peggy Fiandaca with the Arizona Winegrowers Association.

Fiancanda said Arizona vintners have been able to weather the drought because the grapes in the desert are irrigated.

“It allows us to really put the right amount of water on every single plant,” she said.

Fiancanda said the grapes benefit from the stress of the heat because it makes them more flavorful.
