The Pulte Group has pulled out another win as the top homebuilder in the Phoenix area.
Based on recorded housing starts in the Valley, the company took the No. 1 spot for a fourth consecutive year in the Phoenix Business Journal’s annual homebuilders list, which began in 2011.
Pulte, which is currently developing several new communities, boasted 845 housing starts in 2014, according to data collected by the Phoenix Business Journal.
Among Pulte’s new developments is its first active adult community in the Valley under the Pulte Homes name.
The 55-plus community, named Lone Tree, is being constructed in Chandler and promises to appeal to “still-working boomers and retirees,” according to a Pulte press release.
Lone Tree is opening up for sales this month.
Second on the list of the top homebuilders in the Phoenix area was Meritage Homes, with 811 housing starts.
Meritage is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Earlier this year, the company projected a 25 percent to 30 percent growth in home closing revenue for the year after a bump in home sales during the first quarter.
Taylor Morrison was third on the list with 765 housing starts. The Scottsdale-based builder made headlines several months ago when it invited public participation in designing some of its new model homes.
The campaign was said to be the first of its kind by a large-scale production homebuilder.
D.R. Horton landed fourth with 494 housing starts. The builder has been steadily responding to calls for affordable inventory and reaping financial rewards with its Express brand homes geared toward entry-level buyers.
Rounding out the top five was Lennar Homes, with 493 housing starts in 2014.
Like Pulte, Lennar has been courting baby boomer homebuyers of late, recently announcing its first active adult community in Arizona in 12 years, which will become the sprawling Verrado development in Buckeye.
