Gilbert police turn to Mesa crime lab for help

Gilbert police investigators who need crime-scene processing, DNA analysis, toxicology or other reports will now submit evidence to Mesa’s crime lab.
Gilbert Police once used the services and facilities in Chandler, but that partnership ended.
Kim Fiorucci, forensics services administrator for the Mesa Police Department, said this is a win-win for all involved.
“The two cities are side by side,” she said. “We have people committing crimes just crossing the border between the two, so in our ability to help Gilbert get quicker results and be more investigative, we expect that will have a [positive] impact on Mesa’s crime as well.”
Gilbert will pay for the services, which will enable Mesa to pay for additional personnel to take on the extra work.
