Phoenix switches to same-day trash, recycling service

PHOENIX — Garbage in, garbage out. But in Phoenix, there’s a slight change in when.
Starting today Phoenix trash and recycling will be collected on the same day rather than separate days. This will affect 400,000 Valley residents.
City Manager David Cavazos said the move will save the city more than $1 million dollars each year and prevents the need to raise costs later.
“We haven’t had a rate hike in three years and don’t plan one this year. It’s because of these kind of efficiencies we are able to keep the rates very low,” he said.
Residents still need to place collection containers four feet away from the curb by 5:30 a.m. on collection days.
Service for alley and curbside collection will be provided as usual, but the day will change.
