Nash trade disappoints Suns’ camp kids, parents

PHOENIX — There’s a cloud hanging over the Suns’ summer basketball camp for kids at Thunderbird and Washington high schools since announcement of Steve Nash’s trade.

Kids and their parents were disappointed Thursday that the popular two-time MVP is joining the rival Los Angeles Lakers.

Tim Sheldon’s 10-year-old son is attending Suns camp and his boy is one disappointed fan.

“He has rarely been inspired and Nash was his hero,” Sheldon said, “the guy he looked up to and played for.”

Nash is Canadian and fellow Canadian Wes Baldwin brought his daughter to the camp from Alberta, Canada.

Baldwin said he wishes Nash nothing but success but had hoped that success wouldn’t come in a Lakers uniform.

“There’s a lot of other teams I’d like to see him go to but I wish him the best,” Baldwin said. “He’s a quality guy and deserves it. Quality guy on and off the court and you can’t replace somebody like that, period.”

We want to hear from you.
