Police: Alcohol may have been factor in man hit by train

Gilbert police are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in a Tuesday morning accident where 46-year-old Patrick Zenner was ran over by a train.
Gilbert Police Sgt. Bill Balafas said the train engineer saw an object on the tracks and blew the horn, but that object was Zenner.
“The engineer applied the brakes, but, obviously it took about a half-mile to respond and come to a complete stop,” he said. “When officers arrived, they found the man was breathing. Both his legs were nearly completely severed. The officer on-scene applied tourniquets to both legs to stop the bleeding.”
Balafas said Zenner died of his injuries at a local hospital.
Police said they are awaiting a toxicology report.
