PRESCOTT, Ariz. — The Yavapai County jail in Prescott now is open around
the clock.
Sheriff Scott Mascher said the jail switched from operating 12 hours a day so
that law enforcement agencies throughout the county would have a more convenient
place to book people.
Before Sunday, any person arrested outside those hours was taken to the
detention center in Camp Verde. Mascher said that had raised safety concerns.
No inmates will be housed at the Prescott jail. Rather, they will be sent to
Camp Verde.
Mascher has been working with the county supervisors on a design for a new jail
in Prescott that could provide those services.
