PHOENIX — Three dormitories on the Arizona State University campus in
Tempe were briefly evacuated after construction crews struck a gas line.
ASU officials said a construction incident broke a gas line outside of Palo
Verde East, Palo Verde West and Palo Verde Main around 10:30 a.m. Monday.
The school’s alert system sent out text messages to alert the community to
avoid the area and to evacuate.
No students were in the dorms, but about 15 to 20 staff and maintenance crew
members evacuated the buildings.
The Arizona Republic said University Drive was shut down
until the gas line was sealed around 11:20 a.m.
University officials said there were no injuries.
