PHOENIX — Shock-rocker Alice Cooper has opened what he calls a creative
sanctuary where troubled teens can go when school’s out.
The Arizona Republic reported Cooper will celebrate the
opening of his Rock Teen Center in Phoenix with a free concert Friday.
Bands scheduled to perform at the Summer Rockfest include Run 2 Cover and
Ricochet Reloaded.
Cooper, known for hit songs such as “Eighteen” and “No More Mr. Nice Guy,”
has spent the past 11 years raising money for the recreation center through his
Solid Rock Foundation.
The rec center, at 32nd Street and Thunderbird Road,
will offer music classes that will be free to teens.
Cooper said he wanted to give a creative outlet to kids living in areas of
Phoenix dominated by drug and gang activity.
