PHOENIX — Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies have seized 50 pounds of
heroin and arrested two men in the case who are illegal immigrants.

Deputies were investigating a clandestine meth lab when they made the seizure
Monday at a home west of Phoenix.

They say the heroin has an estimated street value of $1.5 million.

Also seized was $25,000 in U.S. currency, a handgun, three cars and one
all-terrain vehicle.

Sheriff’s officials say 23-year-old Saul Zuniga-Leon and 35-year-old Alejandro
Mendoza-Enriquez both have been booked into the downtown Phoenix jail.

They are being held on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs for sale,
possession of equipment or chemicals for the purpose of manufacturing a
dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
