Valley residents to become US citizens on July 4

PHOENIX — A naturalization ceremony next week will welcome 250
Phoenix-area residents as new citizens.

Residents from 62 countries will be sworn in at the annual Independence Day
ceremony at the South Mountain Community College gym.

Fifty people were sworn in as U.S. citizens at the first ceremony in 1989
through an effort by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and residents
of an urban Phoenix village.

A judge will preside over the July 4 ceremony.
