Thieves target Peoria school buses

PHOENIX — Peoria police said thieves have stolen about two dozen vehicle
batteries and damaged a dozen buses at the Peoria Unified School District’s
support service center.

The Arizona Republic said the theft and damage total
about $8,500.

The district and its insurance trust are working with Silent Witness to offer a
$2,500 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the capture of
those responsible.

Plice said thieves entered the service center last week by cutting a
chain-link fence and driving into the yard.

The break-in is the latest in a string of burglaries to hit the school district.

Since November, the district has experienced seven burglaries and one incident
of theft at Sky View Elementary.
