Tempe Police rescued two toddlers from a hot car and arrested their father, who had been passed out in the driver’s seat, on child abuse and aggravated DUI charges.
Ramon Carrillo, 36, of Phoenix, was discovered unconscious Monday behind the wheel in the parking lot of the TownePlace Suites near Baseline Road and Priest Drive, by the hotel manager. The car was not running but the keys were in the ignition and the windows were rolled down. A gun was found under the front seat.
The children, ages 1 and 2, were in physical distress from the heat. Temperatures inside the car were estimated between 111-115 degrees. Both children were taken to the hospital in non life-threatening condition.
Carrillo agreed to a breath test that revealed a 0.212 percent blood-alcohol content, according to authorities. The legal limit in Arizona 0.08.
