GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. — Fire restrictions at the Grand Canyon
are expanding to include charcoal fires and the North Rim.
The new restrictions go into effect Wednesday in all areas of the park, except
the Colorado River corridor.
Officials said the risk of wildfires is too high to allow campfires, charcoal
barbecues or warming fires in campgrounds or residential areas. Gas grills are
OK.
The restrictions aren’t expected to lifted until significant rain falls at the canyon.
Officials also are advising smokers to light up only on paved surfaces or in an
enclosed vehicle, and motorists to be aware of driving in areas with dry
vegetation.
