YOUNG, Ariz. — An eastern Arizona fire continues to threaten transmission
lines that provide electricity to the state’s major metropolitan areas.
Crews were building and reinforcing lines to the east of the blaze Tuesday to
protect the transmission lines.
Gusty winds have been a challenge for firefighters battling the Poco Fire,
which has grown to 3,700 acres.
Helicopters and air tankers also were helping to slow the fire’s spread. It was 15 percent contained Tuesday. Fire officials said smoke is visible along the Mogollon Rim from Payson to
Heber.
Some forest roads in the area are closed.
