Rep. Flake apologizes to GOP rival for error

PHOENIX — Republican Rep. Jeff Flake is apologizing to his rival in the
Arizona Senate race for an accusation made in an online video.
The Arizona Republic reported Flake said Wednesday his
campaign erroneously stated Republican candidate Wil Cardon failed to file
income taxes for a company called Eagle Gate Insurance.
A spokeswoman for Cardon’s campaign said Cardon never held any ownership or
invested in the company.
The video has since been re-edited. Flake also followed up with an apology on
his Facebook page.
Public documents show Eagle Gate at one time shared the same Mesa address as
the Cardon Group, a family business Cardon leads. A 2001 deed filing lists
Cardon’s uncle as Eagle Gate’s director.
