Marilyn Monroe remembered in Arizona Biltmore display

PHOENIX — Sex Symbol. Pop and cultural icon. Marilyn Monroe was all of those.

Now, nearly 50 years after her death in 1962, she’s being remembered in a series of paintings on display at the Arizona Biltmore.

“It was a perfect tie-in to the Arizona Biltmore’s history,” said Biltmore spokeswoman Becky Blaine. “Marilyn was a guest of ours and claimed that the Catalina pool here was her favorite in all of the world. She would swim here and sneak in and out with guests of the hotel.”

The 15 paintings are the work of an artist known as Ludvic.

“He is an Egyptian-born artist,” said Blaine. “He formerly worked with Andy Warhol. He works as a sculptor and painter, and has kind of been obsessed with Marilyn Monroe as his first love since the 1980s and focuses on different variations of that theme.”

The paintings will be on display through Labor Day as part of the resort’s “Hollywood and Wine” festival.
