New fire sparked near Grand Canyon

Fire crews are responding to the newly-sparked Grand Fire on the Kaibab National Forest.

The fire was first detected around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. It is located near the Red Butte Lookout, about 11 miles southeast of the Grand Canyon Village and one mile west of the Grandview Lookout Tower, near the Arizona Trail.

The fire has burned about 60 acres and a total of 65 personnel are on the scene or on their way there. Six engines, two water tenders, two helicopters, one hot shot crew and one dozer are actively fighting the fire. An airplane is coordinating aerial resources.

The newly-arrived DC-10 firefighting aircraft will help fight the Grand Fire.

Smoke may be visible on State Highway 64 and areas around Grand Canyon National Park. Fire crews and equipment may be visible from roads. Drivers are asked to proceed with caution.

There cause of the fire is unknown.
