MESA, Ariz. — Seven soldiers from the Arizona Army National Guard are
scheduled to leave Tuesday morning for Afghanistan.

The soldiers are part of a Phoenix-based unit that lends operational support
for air lift missions.

This will be the unit’s third deployment to Afghanistan.

The Arizona Army National Guard said they will head to Fort Benning, Ga., first
for additional pre-deployment training.

The soldiers are expected to assist other military troops in airlift
missions.

A departure ceremony with family and friends will be led by Army Col. Jeffrey
S. Tipton at 10 a.m. at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
