PHOENIX — A wildfire burning south of Superior on Monday has forced closure of a portion of eastbound Highway 177.
The 257 fire east of the Valley has consumed almost 1,200 acres and is zero percent contained, according to Tonto National Forest officials.
Highway 177 is closed at U.S. 60 from mile marker 167.5 to mile marker 162.
That fire is about a dozen miles southeast of the 200-acre Comet Fire, which is around 50 percent contained.
Cause of the 257, so named after the forest road close to where the blaze sparked, is under investigation.
