PHOENIX — As you head out for vacation, be sure to safeguard your home.
Police said the main ways to prevent vacation break-ins are to install an indoor light timer, leave porch lights on both in the front and back yards, leave the TV on and never update your status or check in on social media.
“I do a combination of all those things,” said Tempe Police Sgt. Jeff Glover.
“Making sure that I notify neighbors is another thing. If you’re very close to your neighbors, make sure you’re talking to them, make them aware that I’m going to be out of town, please watch out for my house.”
Glover said the No. 1 mistake people make is leaving their doors and windows unlocked.
