DOUGLAS, Ariz. – Authorities say a woman has been arrested in southern
Arizona for allegedly trying to smuggle a 2-year-old boy into the country.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers were screening travelers applying
for entry at the Douglas port of entry on Tuesday.
Officers say they became suspicious of 20-year-old Abigail Meraz Valenzuela,
who was pushing a stroller with a young child.
They determined that Valenzuela was attempting to smuggle the baby for monetary
gain and she was arrested.
It’s unclear whether Valenzuela is from Mexico or another country. The boy’s
name and nationality also haven’t been disclosed by Thursday.
