Arizona CEO Shacknai starts charity in son’s name

PHOENIX — A Phoenix pharmaceutical executive, whose son and girlfriend’s
deaths were the subject of much media speculation, is keeping his son’s memory
alive through a new charity.

The Arizona Republic reported that Jonah Shacknai, 55,
has started MaxInMotion in memory of son Max. The nonprofit will help
underserved child athletes.

Shacknai, CEO of Scottsdale-based Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp., said
Wednesday that his son’s passion was sports, especially soccer.

The boy, 6, died in July 2011 after sustaining severe brain injuries from a fall
near a staircase at the family’s southern California mansion.

Shacknai’s girlfriend, who was watching him, was found hanging nude from a
balcony at the house two days later.

Despite protests from the woman’s family, authorities ruled her death a
suicide.
