Former Valley couple pleads guilty to income-tax fraud

PHOENIX — A former Arizona couple has pleaded guilty to submitting false
income tax returns and claiming more than $1.5 million in refunds.
Federal prosecutors said Kevin M. Silva, 53, and Christine A.
Silva, 67, pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix to conspiracy to
defraud the government.
They are scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 27.
The couple formerly lived in Fountain Hills. They now
reside in Castro Valley, Calif.
Prosecutors said the Silvas claimed refunds to which they knew they were not
entitled from 2005 to 2007.
According to authorities, the couple admitted to falsely claiming $1,544,034 in refunds
and agreed to repay $569,469 that remains outstanding with the Internal Revenue
Service.
