PHOENIX — Phoenix police said a man has died after being repeatedly abused
and tortured by his sister and her husband.
Authorities on Monday arrested Carlena Pinkerton, 27, and
Joshua Pinkerton, 31, in the death of James Roy Moore, 22.
Police spokesman James Holmes said the couple left Moore, who is mentally
disabled and on Social Security, at Phoenix Indian Hospital on Friday, where he
died the same day.
According to Holmes, police were called because of Moore’s injuries, which included
multiple fractures, a collapsed lung, malnutrition and dehydration.
Investigators found the couple at their home and also discovered a 2-by-4-foot
room containing only a water heater and a drain. They said evidence shows Carlena
and Joshua Pinkerton locked Moore in there for long periods.
Both now face murder and abuse charges.
