CROWN KING, Ariz. — A wildfire that has burned more than 16,000 acres near
the historic mining town of Crown King is now 80 percent contained.
The Gladiator Fire broke out in a house on May 13. Investigators said it was
human caused but haven’t determined exactly what sparked it.
Prescott National Forest spokeswoman Debbie Maneely said Monday that about 40
people are mopping up and patrolling small, smoldering pockets of fuel in the
fire’s interior.
The wildfire had forced the evacuation of Crown King and other communities to
the north.
