PHOENIX — Jury selection is set to begin in a new trial of a dump-truck
driver charged in the deaths of four motorcyclists in north Phoenix.
KTVK-TV reported that the Maricopa County prosecutors and
defense attorneys for Michael Jakscht will begin looking for potential jurors
Monday.
Jakscht is accused of plowing his 12-ton truck into a group of motorcyclists
stopped at a traffic light on March 25, 2010.
Four motorcyclists died and five others were injured in the fiery accident.
A judge declared a mistrial last year when jurors deadlocked over whether to
convict Jakscht of manslaughter or endangerment.
Phoenix police said toxicology tests showed Jakscht had methamphetamine in his
system. Jakscht’s attorneys said he had taken diet pills and the brakes on the
truck weren’t working well.
