PEORIA, Ariz. — The batting cages at It’s All in the Game Sports Center are a second home to high school baseball players Levi Sheldon and Christian Lopez.
“When you aren’t practicing with your team, you can come out here on the weekends and get some extra practice in,” said Sheldon.
The two boys only come by once or twice a week, but they’re hoping the extra swings during the summer will give them an edge when the season starts back up.
The Sports Center has two locations — one near 77th Avenue and Bell Road, and the other near the Loop 101 and Thunderbird Road.
“It’s just an all-around one-stop shop. You can get everything you need,” said manager Daniel Juarez.
Both locations offer batting cages, equipment for sale, as well as personal batting and pitching coaches. The location near Bell Road will also soon offer the services of Dr. Dana Seltzer, for orthopedic and physical therapy.
Despite, the heat, Juarez said the center sees a lot of kids of all ages. And the heat they practice in only toughens them up for competition.
“Our kids, their athletic skills last longer in the field because they are used to the heat and they know how to hydrate,” he said. “When they play these club teams that come down from California, they are prepared.”
