A vehicle seizure south of Interstate 8 in Arizona’s Vekol Valley yielded one half-ton of marijuana, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
The vehicle was spotted by a helicopter, which directed deputies on the ground to the area. The vehicle was covered by a tarp.
A 16-year-old illegal immigrant was found in the area and arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to transport narcotics.
“Since the beginning of this year, my deputies have come across over 12,000 pounds of marijuana and arrested nearly 100 illegal aliens in the Vekol Valley,” said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in the release.
The recovered marijuana has an Arizona street value of about $750,000 and an East Coast street value of about $1.35 million.
