GILA BEND, Ariz. — Five individuals were rescued by Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and others after a 911 call came from one of the five. The group had been walking through the desert east of Gila Bend for 15 days according to the caller.

The call originally said there was a total of 20 people, but that number was brought down to five after three of the five were rescued and they clarified the number of people in the group. The additional two were located by MCSO’s helicopter. All five were airlifted out of the area after medical attention was given.

The original report of 20 people was a translation error according to MCSO.

All subjects were turned over to the US Border Patrol, who was on the scene during the search and location of all of the individuals involved.

Saturday set a record for Aug. 15 with a 115 degree day in Phoenix.

We want to hear from you.
